I'm sure everyone wants to hear about seeing Phelps, right? So we got up to Ft. Collins, through heavy traffic, at about 12:30. I wore my Flogging Molly band t-shirt and capris. We bought tickets, as there were nowhere near 700 people in attendance. As we waited in line for tickets, the bus pulled up! And we were next to the open door! I saw Lenny and Ian come through. They were virtually ignored! That pissed me off. But then...then. An explosion of sound. Screaming. Howling. Roaring. Michael Phelps. In front of me. Smiling. Wearing sunglasses. And I waved. So then we finally got into the pool area and onto the bleachers. Jason and some of the people from RMT went up too. So first they show some video of MIL (Michael, Ian, Lenny) kicking ass, etc, etc. Everyone was pumped up, screaming. Then the MC introduced IAN CROCKER, who I think is TEH KEWL. He came out, shyly (<3) and took his spot at the end of the pool. He talked for a bit about fly, and then he was going to demo it. So when he pulled off his shirt I went "Ouw-OW!" really loudly. Everyone heard! Ian kicked ass, of course, and then they brought out LENNY KRAYZELBURG. My mum was taking about 5425 pictures a second. So after Lenny finished with his backstroke drills (so cool. SO cool.) everyone went psychotic. I mean absoutely insane. Because we all knew who was coming. MICHAEL PHELPS. Erin and I wormed our way up to the VIP section to try to touch him. As they announced Michael, I was standing up, screaming hysterically, pumping my fists, and did I mention I was screaming? See, if you know me, you know how freaking loud I am. So I was hollering enough to bring down the whole damn place. As Michael got on deck, the noise was enough to make your head explode. He looked shy, and seemed kind of uncomfortable at all the cheering he was getting. So as he came by, I stretched out my hand and he touched me. I grabbed onto his fingers but he kept walking. Dammit. ;D So then he swam some and with the little kids. Michael kicked Lenny's ass on the breastroke! Woot. Anyway, we waited around as the VIP peeps got autographs and the like. Me and some of my RMT friends (dubbed "the groupies") stood around waiting. Michael waved a few times, and then the swimmers left. We ran as fast as we could out to the bus, for one more chance at siggies. We couldn't get any, but hey, the swimmers were extremely close to us again! So that was my adventure. Cross-posted around.
